Should you be using Bing Ads instead of Google AdWords?

1. What are Bing Ads?

Bing Ads is a form of pay per click advertising. It is often used as an alternative to Google AdWords. However, some businesses choose to advertise on both Google AdWords and Bing Ads. The main advantage of Bing Ads is that it can often be significantly cheaper than Google AdWords.

In Australia, just over 10% of all internet searches are now being done on Bing. This percentage is even higher if you market overseas. For example, in the US, Bing has around 30% of all internet searches done on desktops.

So are Bing Ads a good fit for your business?

2. Who is the typical Bing Ads customer?

There is a very definite demographic when it comes to people who use Bing. They are typically over 35 years of age, with an income over $75,000. The majority of Bing users also hold University degrees. So if you have a business that targets this demographic, such as luxury holidays, beauty treatments, chauffeur driven cars, or home improvements then Bing could be for your business.

3. How much does a Bing customer spend?

The average Bing customer spends at least 25% more than customers using other search engines (including Google AdWords).   This is at least partly due to the higher income level of Bing users. It is also due to the fact that they are more interested in making a purchase rather than just ‘surfing the net’. This is great news as you are paying each time someone clicks onto your website – so you want them to be serious about buying your products or services.

4. How much does it cost to use Bing?

Due to less competition on Bing, the cost per click (ie the cost each time someone clicks onto your website) is usually significantly less than Google AdWords. For example, for the travel industry, the cost per click is nearly 30% lower than for Google. If you are interested in advertising in Bing we can provide you with the estimate of the cost of advertising in your industry.

5. How do I get started with Bing?

The technology used by Bing Ads and Google AdWords is very similar, This means when you are set up a Bing Ads campaign, some of the information can be imported from Google AdWords. However, some things cannot be imported – including negative keywords, ad images, remarketing lists and automated rules. This means that some time needs to be spent on setting up the Bing Ads campaign but some of the existing work already done for Google AdWords can be utilised.
