Google & Mobile Phones

What you Need to Know

Google recently updated the way it ranks mobile friendly websites to make it easier for searchers on mobile phones to find them. It will now be easier to find high quality websites where text is easily readable, with minimal tapping, zooming or horizontal scrolling required. This means if your website is not mobile friendly it will be harder for people to find you on their mobile phones.

Why did Google make this change?

Google made these changes in late April 2015. According to Google it now estimates that over half of all searches are conducted on mobile devices, so it wants to make sure that these users get the best experience possible by directing them to mobile friendly websites.

What do you need to do?

It is estimated that nearly 75% of websites are NOT mobile friendly. So the first thing you need to do is to work out if your website is one of the lucky 25% of websites that are mobile friendly. If your website has been designed by Dynamic Websites you will be reassured to know that your website is mobile friendly.  If your website has not been designed by us we are happy to review your website to determine if it is mobile friendly, and if not, provide recommendations to make it mobile friendly.  We are providing this service at no cost.

What are the positives if my website is already mobile friendly?

If your website is already mobile friendly then you are going to have quite an advantage over your competitors. It means that you will rank more highly when a person searches for the services on their mobile phones that you provide over a website with the same services that is not mobile friendly. This means more people visiting your website – which can  lead to a big boost for your business without you needing to do anything.

If you are currently using Google AdWords there is the potential that your Google AdWords costs will be lower (ie the amount you pay every time someone clicks on your website) for your adverts on mobile phones.

What are the negatives if your website is not yet mobile friendly?

If your website is not mobile friendly you risk losing out to your competitors with mobile friendly websites. When a person searches for services on their mobile phone they will be directed to a website that is mobile friendly rather than your website. This means you could be missing out on a lot of business. If you are using Google AdWords it also means that you costs may be higher than if your website was mobile friendly.

Even if a person using a mobile phone finds your non mobile friendly website there is a much higher chance of them abandoning your business if they are struggling to look at your products and services because they have to resize the screen and scroll up and down to find what they are looking for.
